How to Host Guests in a Small Space

Hosting guests when you don’t have a dedicated guest room can be stressful! Our last home was twice as big as my current one and my guests had their own room with a large walk in closet and private bathroom- all on their own floor! Now with CJ and our smaller home, I no longer have the extra space the last house had.

I had to come up with a few creative solutions for when we have guests spend the night. I want them to feel welcome and comfortable, even though they are sleeping in the playroom on an air mattress. Here are my tips to making an unorthodox space guest friendly!

  1. I have dedicated, nice bedding for guests. Pottery Barn’s Essential Sateen Sheet Set is my go to for my guests (and my own bed, too)!
  2. Layer, layer and layer some more! I like to have a lot of extra cozy blankets and pillows available for my guests. No one will ever be upset if there are too many blankets and pillows available to them!
  3. Have the WiFi password ready. I usually set it out by the bed so they can easily log in.
  4. Add a few small but nice accommodations they wouldn’t expect. I like to have my favorite lavender linen spray, my favorite Sleepy lotion and a scented candle next to the bed to make my guests feel special and appreciated! Plus, scent is a great way to make a space feel more inviting!
  5. Play up the room with a few decorations and have fun with it! Our playroom has a grey and dark green mountain mural on one wall so I position the bed to be on this wall and work with this color palette. Adding coordinating decorations and greenery make this unorthodox space comfortable and cozy!

All of these tips can be used no matter what your space looks like! Maybe you just have a sofa for guests to sleep on, or they have to sleep in your office. By making sure they have comfortable amenities available to them will help them feel welcomed and invited because you put the thought into it.

What does your space look like? Do you have a dedicated room for guests or do you have to find a small space solution when company stays over? Comment below, I would love to hear your thoughts!
