How clothes fit is important to how you present yourself to the world. A bad fit can take a great outfit and turn it unflattering. Today, I am going to look at Loft and compare how their size chart compares with the actual fit of their garments.

Here is Loft’s size chart to compare. According to their measurements, I am size 00P/XXSP regular. I have a 24″ waist, 33″ hip and am 5’0″ tall. I chose to try on three styles that Loft uses over and over again to get the most accurate fit review.

First, I tried on the Petite Striped Harbor Tank Top in size XXSP. Overall, I thought the top fit true to their size chart. The length was flattering on my petite frame and I was especially impressed with the armhole drop. Most tops have a very long armhole drop that will expose your bra, which is then exacerbated on a petite frame. This armhole drop was a great cut and did not show my bra at all!

Next, I chose to try on the Petite Riviera Shorts in Doubleweave in size 00P. The Riviera style is a basic for Loft that they have been using for years in shorts and pants. According to Loft’s size chart, these shorts should fit my 24″ waist but they are far too large. They are overall 2″ too big- you can see the excessive gapping in the front and back of these shorts. I would understand making this style a little large in the waist to be able to tuck in a top or sweater, but 2″ is an excessive allowance. I can make these shorts fit with a belt but then they get far too bulky and become a hassle.

Lastly, I chose to try on the Petite Striped Poplin Pleated Yoke Shirtdress in size XXSP. I knew this dress had a loose shape and I thought it would be ok because the length looked short on the model. On me, though, the dress was too long and looked frumpy. Loft’s petite fit is based on a 5’4″ model and I think this dress would be better suited on someone of that height. On my 5’0″ frame though, not great.
Overall, Loft has a fairly accurate petite size chart for tops and dresses. For bottoms, though, they could use an update to more accurately reflect their garments compared to their size chart.
