My West Elm Leon Wood Frame Sofa Review (Small Space + Mom Friendly!)

My long waited for Leon Wood Frame Sofa from West Elm finally arrived early October! I was so excited when this finally came- I placed the order in April! There were a few times where I may have even forgotten that I ordered a new sofa because it had been so long…haha. So here’s a recap on how this sofa has served me and my family so far!

  1. It’s still absolutely gorgeous! I loved the detailing on this sofa the first time I saw it. I love that it has an exposed pecan wood frame- you can see it on the front, sides and back and gives the sofa a very streamlined look. The keyhole arm is also very modern and streamlined, which I love. It has a low profile back which is perfect for my home- I have very long/low windows so this sofa hardly interrupts them (my old sofa back sat much higher and blocked the windows more). The more natural light in my home the better!
  2. It’s very comfortable for me and my family. My husband and I prefer a firmer seat in our furniture and this sofa provides just that!
  3. It’s great for small spaces! My living room has A LOT of doorways (a door for the entry from the vestibule, French doors off the dining room, a door to the stairs to the second floor, a door to the master bedroom AND a door to the kitchen) so I don’t actually have a lot of space for furniture. The Leon sofa is a standard depth sofa so it doesn’t take up a lot of depth space and it’s only 82″ wide so it’s shorter than most sofas (a standard sofa is 96″).
  4. The performance fabric is a MUST if you have kids or pets! I ordered the beautiful Lagoon performance velvet for this sofa and it has been a furniture saver! Two days after getting this sofa CJ spilled milk all over it (which is funny because he never spilled anything on the old sofa…). I blotted it up with a damp towel and there is no indication whatsoever that something was spilled on it! Performance fabric on furniture is so important to me- the fabric is made with qualities that won’t allow liquids to soak into the fabric and stain. (Note: it looks like Lagoon is not offered anymore but the Petrol Performance Velvet is extremely similar).
  5. Why did I order a velvet sofa? Because velvet is soooo soft! Plus, a velvet sofa looks sharp!
  6. There is one somewhat negative comment from me, though… I am noticing that I have to flip and fluff the back cushion every few days where Peter sits. Once fluffed and flipped, the cushion looks good as new! It does makes me wonder if the core of the cushion will break down quicker than an average cushion….

Overall, I still love this sofa! Everything about it is perfect for my home and my family from the style, seat and fabric. Would you ever invest in a velvet sofa?
