How to Always Feel Confident as a Mom

Hi everyone! I am introducing myself again because I have seen quite a bit of new traffic on the site! I’m Caitlin, a boy mom to CJ who is almost 2 and who decided to put her career on hold to be a stay at home mom. Nice to meet you!

As a new mom life is different and certainly much harder- obviously! My husband and I were married for 9 years before we had CJ and our lives instantly changed afterwards, especially mine. CJ is the biggest blessing of our lives- we tried for about 3 years to have a baby and suffered numerous miscarriages.

And now things are just different- long gone are the days where I could stay at work late, pop into a store when it was convenient, and go to the bathroom alone (I never realized how nice that was until I wasn’t able to do it anymore haha). Now I don’t have a lot of time to care for myself which really lowered my confidence. I was always the girl who knew what she was going to wear the next day, had my lunch packed and ready to go the night before, and would go for a run before work and then take as much time as I needed to get ready for my day. I just don’t have the time or energy to do all these things anymore.

Being prepared made me feel like I was ready for the day and I struggled with that when it was gone. I tried keeping up that old lifestyle for a while but it just didn’t work for me. So I formulated a new plan that is a simpler and quicker to help me regain the confidence I lost!

  1. I wake up early and always have- I’m usually up between 5-5:30 so I can get a jump on the day. This also means I go to bed early- usually around 9:30.
  2. I keep my makeup to a minimal- basically primer, foundation, mascara and a little highlighter on my cheeks. I prefer a bold lip color when I walk out the door- it enhances your minimal makeup and makes you look polished.
  3. I keep my outfits simple by sticking to a few key pieces I know look good on me. It is so important to make sure your clothes fit correctly and you’re comfortable in them before heading out the door. If those pants are slightly too small or that shirt is a little too loose, you’re going to feel uncomfortable and it will show all over your face and in your body language.
  4. I also keep my outfits to an easy color palette- they’re usually neutral or, if I add color, I make sure to keep the color palette cohesive. If you keep it simple, you’ll always look put together and polished.

And that’s basically it! If you feel uncomfortable with how you look or are too rushed before heading out the door, you won’t feel good about yourself. Plain and simple. By making sure you’re able to have a touch of makeup on and an outfit you feel good in you’ll feel confident, which will show to everyone else. And you’ll feel good about yourself- which is the most important thing.
