J.Crew Factory City Coat

Hey, y’all!  This week was unseasonably warm for January in Wisconsin and it was a great break!  40 degrees this time of year usually means people are walking around outside in short sleeves (literally- Peter spent all of Saturday wearing just a polo and jeans…).  The warmer weather for me didn’t mean I was wearing a sleeveless dress but I wasn’t wearing my parka and boots (which I love but it’s nice to take a break from them once in a while).

A great coat for work is the City Coat from J.Crew Factory found here.  Lets be honest- a parka doesn’t necessarily scream “professional” when you walk into the office in the morning.  The City Coat always looks polished (especially in classic camel), the cut is simple and sophisticated, the wool keeps you warm even when it’s 0 outside, the deep pockets guarantee your phone won’t fall out and the high neck ensures no cold air is leaking in.

I ordered the 0 petite according to the waist measurements in their size chart.  When I got it I almost exchanged it for the 00 petite because it seemed a little too roomy on me but that was partially because I tried it on with a tank top (it was 95 degrees when I bought this coat and trying on a thick, wool coat was unappealing at the time).  After I finally decided to try it on while wearing a sweater (ugh- that was a bit painful even with the air on!) I liked the fit a lot more due to the extra bulk.

The City Coat is great for petite ladies.  I always have a difficult time finding a coat that fits me properly and this one does the trick!  The sleeves are shortened so I don’t have to roll them up (I roll regular sized coat’s sleeves up to the inside for a quick fix) and the torso is also reduced so it doesn’t look like you’re drowning in it.

I am very happy with this coat and it is a great investment piece that will be worn for years.  J.Crew Factory is currently sold out of the camel color but they have red and purple still available – plus they’re on super sale right now!  This styled coat seems to come around every year for J.Crew Factory (I’ve been stalking this style from them for years) so if you really want the camel color I would wait until late summer to get it when it is restocked.

P.S.  My leggings are from are from Lou & Grey and can be found here.  These are my staple leggings and I constantly wear them in the winter.  The ponte is thick which ensures warmth and nothing shows through; they retain their shape (knees don’t bag out) and the black stays colorfast wash after wash.  Once this pair finally needs to go (which I’ve had for a couple of years and they are not showing any signs of needing replaced) I will definitely be buying them again.
